GBA MP Firmware updater by Chishm

UPDATED! Now with version 2 of Chishm's Firmware.

Using GBA MP to install FlashMe
Troubleshooting

Thanks Chishm and DarkFader!

This is a picture of the REAL GBA MP version 2. This is what the firmware update is for. A new pic will be added soon, as the current shipping GBA MP has a smaller label, and is on the WHITE side of the GBA MP, so it is displayed while inserted into the DS.

Here's what I did.

Get the latest files from Chishm here: FILES

It's also a good idea to grab the latest update.exx file from movieadvance.com (as of this writing, it was update.e19).

Copy the ndsmp.gba file onto the CF card as well as the update.exx file.

---->After that, insert the CF card into the GBA Movie Player Version 2 and stick it into your DS.

Then, turn on your DS WITHOUT a PassMe inserted and let it boot into GBA mode.

You should receive a screen asking if you want to update the firmware. Press START and let it update. Now, you can either remove the file from your CF, or just restart the DS in GBA Mode, and press A to skip it the second time.

Next, select "FC Game" from the menu

Then, select ndsmp.gba from the list.

You should see the screen below:

Press and hold the L and R buttons, and then press SELECT.

Once this is done, you should see:

Now, remove the GBA MP from your DS, remove the CF from the GBA MP, and copy Omalone.nds (Or any other homebrew .nds file you want) to the CF card.

Next, rename Omalone.nds to _BOOT_MP.NDS

Put the CF card back into the GBA MP, and then insert the GBA MP into your DS.

Next, insert the PassMe into the DS and turned it on. BOOM! There was Omalone!!

UPDATE: You no longer have to worry about your files being fragmented with version 2 of Chishm's firmware. Also, I highly recommend you use MightyMax's GBA MP Loader so that you can just copy .nds files onto the CF card, without having to rename them.
You can now purchase pre-flashed GBA MPs from dspassme.com.

Using it to install FlashMe

Borrowed/edited from Chishm:

To use this to flash your DS:
1) Put ndsmp.gba on your CF card root directory.
2) Start your GBAMP. Go into FC Game and run ndsmp.gba. Install the boot loader.
3) Download flashme.nds from http://ds.gcdev.com/dsfirmware/. It must be the .NDS file, not the .DS.GBA file!
4) Put flashme.nds on the root of your CF card and rename it to _BOOT_MP.NDS
5) Use either a passme or wifime to start your DS in NDS mode.
76) Flash your DS according to the instructions on the web site.
8) Remove _BOOT_MP.NDS from your CF card, and replace it with a different game, such as OMalone.nds. Rename the NDS file of the game to _BOOT_MP.NDS.
9) Restart your DS.

Troubleshooting

White Screens, but ndsmp.gba installed fine.

0) NOTE! The GBA MP does NOT work with PassMe2! PassMe2 requires SRAM, which the GBA MP does not have!
1) Try formatting the card.
2) Try defragmenting your card.
Still not working, try this: (provided by Natrium42)

In HexWorkshop:
(1) Open *physical* disk from the menu.
(2) You should now see 0x200 bytes of the first physical sector.
(3) Sellect all of them (CTRL-A)
(4) Go to Edit -> Insert and fill with 0's
(5) Close HexWorkshop, reinsert CF and format with Windows.

I'd like to thank the following:

Chishm for providing us with this great firmware! I thing the GBA MP owe him big on this one!
DarkFader for creating the flashing tool.
Natrium42 for helping people get their CF card working with this.
